Le Théâtre National du Panama, inauguré le 1er octobre 1908, est le principal lieu culturel du pays et l'un des joyaux architecturaux les plus emblématiques du Casco Viejo. Conçu par l'architecte italien Genaro Ruggieri, ce majestueux bâtiment néoclassique a été construit sur les vestiges d'un couvent du XVIIIe siècle. Sa façade présente des colonnes corinthiennes, un élégant fronton triangulaire et un médaillon à la lyre. L'intérieur éblouit avec un hall en marbre italien, une coupole peinte à fresque par Roberto Lewis, des loges aux balustrades dorées et un lustre en verre de Murano couronnant la salle principale de 854 places. Aujourd'hui, il accueille l'Orchestre Symphonique National, le ballet, l'opéra et des concerts internationaux.
