The San Blas Islands are an archipelago of 365 paradise islands in Guna Yala territory. We tell you everything to plan your perfect visit.
How to Get to San Blas
There are two main options: By land (most popular): A 4x4 from Panama City (2.5-3 hours) through mountain roads to the Cartí dock, then 20-30 minutes by boat. By air: Charter flights of 30 minutes from Albrook airport to various island airstrips ($100-150 one way). From our Playa Escondida property, the land journey is shorter (~2 hours). Most organized tours include transport, boat, lunch, and visits to 2-3 islands for $100-150 per person.

What to Expect & Best Time
San Blas is autonomous territory of the Guna people — respect their customs. There are no luxury hotels; island accommodation is rustic (overwater cabins or hammocks). For a day trip, you'll enjoy postcard-perfect beaches with white sand, palm trees, and incredibly clear turquoise waters. Snorkeling is excellent with starfish everywhere. Best time: December to April (dry season) has the calmest seas. January to March is ideal. The green season works well too but the sea can be rougher. Bring: biodegradable sunscreen (mandatory), cash (no ATMs), snorkel gear, waterproof camera, and light luggage.
