Bocas del Toro is Panama's most vibrant Caribbean destination: paradise beaches, surfing, rasta culture, and the best nightlife outside the capital.
Getting There & Around
Flight: Air Panama flies from Albrook to Bocas Town in 1 hour (~$100-150 one way). Bus + ferry: Overnight bus to Almirante (8-9 h) + 30-min ferry to Isla Colón — the budget option (~$30 total). To get between islands, water taxis ($3-5 per ride) are the main transport. Renting a bicycle in Bocas Town is ideal for exploring Isla Colón. We recommend at least 3-4 nights to enjoy it properly.
What to Do in Bocas
Beaches: Starfish Beach (Playa Estrella) for starfish, Red Frog Beach for surfing, Zapatillas for total solitude. Activities: Island hopping by boat ($25-30 pp full tour), surfing at Paunch or Bluff, diving at Crawl Cay reefs, dolphin watching, chocolate tour at organic cacao farms. Nightlife: Bocas Town has overwater bars with live music, especially Wednesdays (ladies night) and weekends. Aqua Lounge is the most iconic bar with a trampoline into the sea.
