Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Panama, our properties, and how to book
Booking
How do I book a property?
Book at book.spongi.xyz (live rates), via Airbnb links on each property, or WhatsApp / reservas@spongi.xyz for longer stays, groups, or Caribbean+Pacific split-stays. spongi.xyz has guides, photos, and details for every luxury apartment.
Should I book Playa Escondida or Buenaventura?
Choose Playa Escondida (Caribbean, up to 16 guests) for turquoise water, snorkeling, San Blas, and large groups. Choose Buenaventura (Pacific, up to 12 guests) for Nicklaus golf, spa, golden Pacific beaches, and a quieter resort. Many guests combine both in one week (3–4 nights each). See our comparison guide at /en/guides/playa-escondida-vs-buenaventura/ or book at book.spongi.xyz.
Is it better to book on book.spongi.xyz or only on Airbnb?
Both channels list the same luxury properties. Airbnb is convenient if you already use the app. book.spongi.xyz and direct contact (WhatsApp or reservas@spongi.xyz) work better for longer stays, groups, Caribbean+Pacific split-stays, invoicing, or pre-booking questions. Our Panama-based team handles check-in and support in Spanish and English.
Can I WhatsApp you before booking?
Yes — it's the fastest way to confirm dates, group size, Caribbean+Pacific split-stays, or special requests (crib, private chef, transport). Message us on WhatsApp or reservas@spongi.xyz; when you're ready, pay on book.spongi.xyz or we'll send a booking link.
Are there villas or apartments in Panama for groups of 12–16 guests?
Yes — our Playa Escondida apartment (up to 16 guests, 4 en-suite bedrooms) and Buenaventura Punta Arenas (up to 12) are private-resort stays with beach, pools, and a gourmet kitchen. Ideal for extended family, retreats, or celebrations. Guide: /en/guides/group-getaway-panama-guide. Book at book.spongi.xyz or WhatsApp.
Can I stay on both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts in one trip?
Yes — many guests book 3–4 nights at Playa Escondida (Caribbean, snorkeling, San Blas) and 3–4 nights at Buenaventura (Pacific, golf, spa), ~2 hours apart by car. We coordinate calendars at book.spongi.xyz or WhatsApp. Itinerary: /en/guides/1-week-panama-luxury and /en/guides/playa-escondida-vs-buenaventura.
What is the minimum stay?
In high season a 2–3 night minimum usually applies depending on the property and calendar (holidays may require more). Stays of 7+ nights often get better rates — WhatsApp us or check book.spongi.xyz for flexible dates.
What is the cancellation policy?
The cancellation policy varies depending on the property and the booking platform used. We recommend checking the specific details on each property listing before confirming your reservation. For direct bookings, contact us and we'll inform you about the applicable conditions.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are processed through the booking platforms (such as Airbnb), which accept major credit and debit cards. For direct bookings, we also accept bank transfers. Contact us for more information about the payment options available for your reservation.
Is a deposit required to book?
For Airbnb bookings, payment is handled according to the platform's policies. For direct bookings, we generally request a 30-50% deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due before arrival. Exact details depend on the property and season. Contact us for specific terms.
Do you offer group rates or event packages?
Yes, we offer special rates for groups, corporate retreats, weddings, and events. We can coordinate accommodation across multiple properties and help arrange activities, catering, and transportation. Contact us with your group details (number of guests, dates, type of event) for a personalized quote.
Is there a minimum stay requirement?
The minimum stay varies by property and season. Generally, we require a minimum of 2-3 nights, though during high season (December-April) and holidays it may be 4-7 nights. For stays of a month or longer, we offer special discounts. Check each property's availability for specific requirements.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Standard check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. If you need early arrival or late departure, contact us in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate you based on availability. For very late arrivals, we'll provide self check-in instructions.
Travel
Do I need a visa to visit Panama?
Many nationalities do not need a visa for stays of up to 90-180 days in Panama. Citizens of the European Union, the United States, Canada, and many other countries can enter with just a valid passport. We recommend checking the specific requirements of Panama's National Immigration Service based on your nationality before traveling.
What is the best time to visit Panama?
Panama is a year-round destination. The dry season runs from December to April, with clear skies and warm temperatures. The green season (May to November) offers lower prices, fewer tourists, and lush nature. A highlight is the whale watching season from July to October. The average temperature is 27-32°C (80-90°F) throughout the year.
How do I get from the airport to the properties?
Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is the main entry point to Panama. From there, you can reach our Caribbean properties in approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Transportation options include taxi, private transfer, or rental car. We can help you arrange a private transfer for your convenience. Contact us with your flight details.
How do I get around in Panama?
In Panama City, Uber is the most convenient and affordable option. Taxis are also available throughout the city. For intercity travel, there are modern buses (from the Albrook terminal) and domestic flights to destinations like Bocas del Toro and David. For our properties, we can arrange private transfers from the airport or city. Car rental is another good option if you plan to explore on your own.
Can I rent a car in Panama?
Yes, car rentals are available at Tocumen Airport and in Panama City from companies like Hertz, Avis, and Budget. Driving is on the right side of the road and main highways are in good condition. An SUV is recommended for reaching our Caribbean properties. Your international or home-country driving license is valid for up to 90 days. Note that traffic in Panama City can be heavy during rush hours.
Do I need travel insurance for Panama?
While not mandatory, we strongly recommend travel insurance that covers medical expenses, flight cancellation, and lost luggage. Panama has good private healthcare, but costs can be high without insurance. If you plan activities like snorkeling, surfing, or hiking, make sure your policy covers adventure sports.
What should I pack for Panama?
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton or quick-dry fabrics), swimwear, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and sunglasses. Bring a light rain jacket even in the dry season, as brief showers can occur. Comfortable walking shoes and sandals for the beach are essential. If you plan to visit upscale restaurants in Panama City, include one or two smart-casual outfits.
Does Panama have a hurricane season?
No. Panama sits below the hurricane belt and is virtually never affected by hurricanes or tropical cyclones. This is one of Panama's great advantages as a Caribbean destination. During the "green season" (May-November) there are tropical rains, usually in the afternoon, but these are brief and refreshing. The weather remains warm year-round (80-90°F / 27-32°C).
What is the difference between dry season and green season?
The dry season (December-April) has clear skies and is ideal for beach and outdoor activities. It's high season with higher prices. The green season (May-November) has brief tropical rains in the afternoon, greener and lusher landscapes, fewer tourists, and significantly lower prices (up to 30-40% less). Both seasons have similar temperatures (80-90°F / 27-32°C). Many experienced travelers prefer the green season for its better value.
Are prices higher during holidays?
Yes, rates are higher during peak periods: Christmas and New Year's (December 20 - January 5), Easter Week (March/April), Carnival (February/March), and long weekends. We recommend booking 2-3 months in advance for these dates. The shoulder season (January-March, outside holidays) offers good weather at more reasonable prices. The green season (May-November) has the best prices of the year.

Is cleaning service included?
All properties are delivered spotlessly clean with fresh linens and towels. For stays of a week or longer, we include a mid-stay cleaning at no extra charge. If you'd like daily cleaning or additional service during your stay, we can arrange it for an extra fee. Contact us for details.
Do you offer long-stay discounts?
Yes, we offer attractive discounts for extended stays. Monthly rates include water and high-speed internet; electricity is billed separately based on usage. We also have weekly discounts. Contact us directly for a personalized quote.
What is included in the monthly rate?
The monthly rate includes full accommodation, water, high-speed internet (1 Gbps fiber optic with mesh WiFi throughout the property), access to all resort amenities, bed linens and towels, and weekly cleaning. Electricity is NOT included and is billed separately based on actual usage — this is because air conditioning and other high-consumption appliances can vary significantly between guests. Contact us via WhatsApp for more details.
Panama

What currency is used in Panama?
The US Dollar (USD) is the official currency of Panama, alongside the Panamanian Balboa (which has the same value). There is no need for currency exchange if you already have dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops. ATMs are available throughout the country.
What languages are spoken in Panama?

Is tap water safe to drink in Panama?
Tap water is safe to drink in Panama City and most urban areas. At our Buenaventura properties, tap water is safe to drink. In rural areas and on the Caribbean coast (including Playa Escondida), we recommend using bottled or filtered water for drinking, though the water is safe for showering and brushing teeth.
What are the tipping customs in Panama?
In restaurants, the standard tip is 10%, which is often already included in the bill as "propina" or "service." If service was exceptional, you can leave an additional 5-10%. For taxi drivers, tipping isn't mandatory but rounding up is appreciated. Hotel bellhops receive $1-2 per bag. Tour guides appreciate $5-10 per person for half-day tours.
What type of electrical plugs does Panama use?
Panama uses Type A and B plugs (same as the United States and Canada), with 120V voltage and 60Hz frequency. If you're coming from Europe, you'll need a plug adapter. We recommend bringing a universal adapter. At our properties, we have some adapters available, but it's best to bring your own.
How do I get a SIM card or mobile internet in Panama?
You can buy prepaid SIM cards from carriers like +Móvil, Tigo, or Claro at the airport, convenience stores, or carrier branches. A 5-10 GB data plan costs approximately $5-10 USD. You can also use eSIM if your phone supports it. Remember that all our properties have high-speed WiFi, so a SIM is mainly for when you're out and about.
Are there health precautions I should take for Panama?
No mandatory vaccinations are required for most travelers, though keeping standard vaccinations up to date is recommended. Insect repellent is advisable, especially in coastal and jungle areas. Panama has excellent private hospitals in Panama City (Hospital Punta Pacífica, Hospital Nacional). We recommend bringing any personal medication you need and a basic kit with antihistamines and sunscreen.
